A dental implant is a small titanium post placed in the jawbone where the root used to be. Over the next few months the bone grows around it and locks it in, which is what makes it strong enough to chew on normally.
Once it has healed, a crown goes on top. It looks like a tooth, you brush it like a tooth, and unlike a bridge, the healthy teeth on either side are left alone.

Dr. Duraini founded Advanced Dental Lounge & Implants in Murphy and handles your implant care himself, from the first consultation to the day your new tooth goes in.
He earned his dental degree at NYU College of Dentistry, then completed a General Practice Residency at Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx, with advanced training in cosmetic and surgical dentistry. Before dental school he worked as a dental lab technician, so he knows how teeth are made, not just placed.

Can my tooth be saved, or does it need to come out?
It depends on how much healthy tooth and root is left. Many broken or painful teeth can be saved with a crown or a root canal. Dr. Duraini will tell you honestly which it is at your visit.
What is a dental implant?
A small titanium post that replaces the root of a missing tooth, topped with a crown that looks and works like a natural tooth.
Is an implant better than a bridge?
A bridge relies on reshaping the healthy teeth on either side. An implant stands on its own and leaves those teeth alone. Dr. Duraini will go over which makes sense for you.
How long does an implant take?
The implant is placed in one visit. The bone then heals around it for a few months before the permanent crown goes on. You'll get a timeline for your case at your consultation.

Dr. Duraini will talk you through numbing and comfort options before anything begins, and you can ask about sedation.
